Meet Our Newest Provider: Dr. Laura Smith

The team at Gulf Coast Periodontics & Implants prides itself on providing the best care available to the community in and around Gulfport, Mississippi. Board-certified periodontist, Caesar Sweidan, DDS, has been providing top-notch dental care for years, and now he’s joined by the talented and also board-certified periodontist, Laura Smith, DDS.

Meet Dr. Smith

Dr. Smith came to Gulf Coast Periodontics & Implants by way of San Jose, Costa Rica, where she practiced general dentistry in private practice for three years. But her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Universidad Latina de Costa Rica was only the beginning. 

After marrying her husband in 2012, Dr. Smith headed to New Orleans. By 2013, she had started a one-year fellowship program at Louisiana State University, where she received advanced training on the latest techniques in placing single and multiple dental implants. But it didn’t end there.

That one-year fellowship led Dr. Smith to accept a position at Louisiana State University in their prestigious postgraduate periodontal program. She started serving as a periodontal specialist in south Louisiana in 2017.

One thing Dr. Smith enjoys most is working closely with her patients. She’s passionate about preventing and treating oral health issues, such as periodontal disease. When Dr. Smith isn’t busy with patients, she loves spending time with her husband and three children, Oliver, Emme, and Julian. But the family also loves traveling farther from home, especially when it involves the warm weather in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
